UT Southwestern participates in an open access (OA) transformative agreement with John Wiley & Sons, Inc., which allows corresponding authors affiliated with UT Southwestern to publish OA articles at no charge† to the author. To qualify, articles must be published in a Wiley or Hindawi fully open access journal (submitted on or after 1 January 2024) or published open access in a hybrid journal (accepted on or after 1 January 2024).
Most‡ Wiley journals offer one of the following Creative Commons Attribution License types, which will be indicated during the request process:
† The agreement allows a maximum number of published OA articles across all eligible journals during a given year. Once the cap is reached, authors will no longer be offered an opportunity to publish at no charge. For 2025, this maximum was 146 articles, and as of September 2025, this cap was reached. On January 1, 2026, the article pool will be reset, and funding will resume.

‡ A limited number of society-owned journals may not provide a Creative Commons license option. For more information, see Open Access Without a Creative Commons License.
Authors should review the Wiley Author Services page for more information.
