Annual Reviews

The UT Southwestern Medical Center maintains a subscription to selected Annual Reviews titles as part of our consortial relationship with The University of Texas System. Annual Reviews follows a "Subscribe to Open (S2O)" business model, which uses subscription payments to convert gated access journals to full open access (OA).

All 51 Annual Reviews journals are currently in production for 2025. With continued support for S2O, these journals will convert to open access under a CC BY license as they publish through the 4 quarters of 2025. Last year, all 2024 journal volumes converted to open access through support of S2O. Under S2O, for journals in which the required subscription/funding levels are maintained, the 2025 volumes of these journals will be published with open access under a creative commons license on each journal’s respective official date of publication.

The UT Southwestern Library subscribes to the Biomedical/Life Sciences Collection, which includes the following journals:

Institutional subscribers enjoy the following benefits under S2O:

  1. Access to Reviews-in-Advance (RIAs)
  2. Guaranteed permanent data rights to the 2025 volume, as access is not guaranteed without a subscription
  3. Enhanced back volume availability

For journals successfully funded under S2O, subscribers enjoy the following additional benefits:

  1. Seamless access for everyone at their institutions, wherever they are, whenever they need it
  2. Authors from their institutions will have their articles published open access with no article processing charges
