Article Processing Charges (APCs) Guide

Emerald Publishing

The UT Southwestern Library has joined a 2025-2027 Read & Publish transformative agreement with Emerald Publishing through SCELC (the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium). This agreement covers open access article processing charges (APCs) for corresponding authors from eligible institutions and is the first Emerald consortial read and publish agreement in the Western Hemisphere.

Journal Type Publish Benefits
Hybrid Journals
  • APCs are covered at no charge to corresponding authors for articles published in one of the 310+ Emerald eJournal Premier Collection journals.
  • APCs are capped at 115% of historical publishing volume across all 19 participating institutions. For 2025, this capped total is 30 articles, and this total is shared among all institutions.
Fully Open Access Journals
  • Articles published in one of Emerald's ~10 fully open access journals are eligible for a 5% APC discount.
  • There is no limit on the number of times the APC discount may be used in a given year.

This agreement is valid for original articles accepted for publication between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2027, and covers case reports, conceptual papers, literature reviews, technical papers, viewpoints, research articles, extended editorials, practitioner papers, impact articles, brief reports, and policy briefs.

Author Journal Overview

Emerald uses three different platforms to support author publications, and it is recommended that authors use the same email address across all three platforms.

Notes

The email that is used in ScholarOne to submit an article will be carried over to Emerald Submit. If a different email is used in Submit and Insight, you will not be able to see your article.

Emerald Submit uses the same login details as Emerald Insight, and users will be redirected to the Insight page to enter details.
