Systematic Reviews and Other Evidence Synthesis Types Guide

Systematic Review and Other Evidence Synthesis Types

In 2021, the Library completed a comprehensive update of its Systematic Review Guide.  As the breadth of methodologies and types of complex searches we support has evolved, the new Systematic Review and Evidence Synthesis Types Guide launched in 2024 includes content from the Systematic Review Guide as well as new content of other types of evidence synthesis.

For the purpose of this guide, the terms "evidence synthesis" and “knowledge synthesis” are used interchangeably and encompass a broad group of review families, including but not limited to systematic review, meta-analysis, integrative review, rapid review, scoping review and umbrella review.

The left column displays the Table of Contents.  Depending on your familiarity, you can either methodically review the Guide in its entirety or go directly to one (or more) specific chapter(s) for a quick review.

The tabs along the top within each chapter include more material and are organized to help users find information efficiently.
