How to Cite Generative AI

Rules for citing ChatGPT are not yet fully established. Before including generative AI tools in a project, it is recommended to:

  • Confirm with the target journal and publisher whether the use of AI generated text and/or images are allowed in manuscript submissions.
  • Confirm with the sponsoring organization and/or association whether the use of AI generated text and/or images are allowed in the abstract submission, presentation, poster, etc.
  • Review the required output style to format the AI generated text and/or image correctly

EndNote Support Question: Will a Generative AI template will be added to the “New Reference” templates?

July 24, 2023 response: There are output styles citing Artificial Intelligence like APA but the Output Style like AMA and NLM does not have that. This must be done by their citation style provider. As for now, EndNote does not have such Citing Artificial Intelligence.
