UT Southwestern Research Data Repository Guide: Quick Start Guide

First Steps

  1. Start on the Dataverse homepage at https://dataverse.tdl.org/dataverse/utswmed.
  2. Click "Log In" at the top of the website.
  3. In the Shaded "Institutional Account" box, choose "The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center" and click "Continue".
  4. Log in with your UT Southwestern username and password.
  5. Choose the "UT Southwestern Research Data Collection" to add your data to our Dataverse collection.
    • Note: A "Dataverse collection" is simply a collection of datasets with something in common – in this case, affiliation.

Adding Data

  1. Now that you're inside the UT Southwestern Research Data Repository, click on "Add Data" to add your data to the collection. Then choose "New Dataset".

  2. Fill in all required fields and any optional fields to describe your data and allow it to be discoverable and usable by other researchers. Note: The affiliation should be left as "UT Southwestern Research Data Repository".

Additional Suggestions

  • Hover over the fields to see additional information.
  • We highly encourage including researcher identifiers (e.g., ORCID, Scopus Author Identifier, Web of Science ResearcherID).

Uploading and Sharing Data

  1. After the initial steps in describing your data set, click on "Select Files to Add" to add files to your dataset.

  2. After adding files, it's important to describe your data to the fullest. Click on "Edit Metadata" to add additional information.

  3. Add additional files or make other changes in the same menu.
  4. Note the options to edit Permissions - this will allow other institutional collaborators to work with you on your dataset before it is published.
    • The default license on Datasets is CC0, and information about this may be found at Texas Digital Library Licensing and Permissions.
    • More information on Permissions and other options for Datasets can be found in the full User Guide.
    • It's best to make any of these edits that you'd like to make before you submit your data to publish.
  5. Once your dataset is complete and fully described, submit your data to be published using the button at the top of your dataset page.

  6. You'll get an email with a link to the live dataset once it is published.
