Scopus Author Identifier

Scopus, an Elsevier product, is a multidisciplinary scientific database that indexes content from more than 24,000 active titles and 5,000 publishers. It includes journal articles, patents, conference proceedings, and books in the physical sciences, health sciences, life sciences, and social sciences. Journal coverage ranges from 1788 to the present.

Introduced in 2006, the SCOPUS Author Identifier is automatically generated for you once you have any publications indexed in Scopus, and the numeric Author Identifier is unique and persistent. Since the algorithm automatically creates an Author Identifier whenever it detects a slight variation in the author or affiliation information, it is possible that you may have multiple Author Identifiers, so it is important for you to review your publications and merge duplicate profiles under one Author Identifier.

Step 1

Search for your name under the Authors search tab. If you have multiple affiliations, leave the Add affiliation blank.

Step 2

  1. Examine the list of author results. If you are listed more than once, check the relevant set numbers and then click on Request to merge authors to merge the records.
  2. Click on your name to examine the list of your articles in Author Details.

Step 3

  1. Scopus Author Identifier
  2. ORCID iD will display if you are registered. If you are not registered, click to Connect to ORCID.
  3. Review your publications. If the list is incomplete, click on Potential author matches to view other possible author matches. If applicable, click potential matches to Request to merge with author.
  4. Click on Set alert to be notified when new publications are added to Scopus.
  5. If the profile needs to be updated, click Edit profile to access the Author Feedback Wizard.

While you cannot edit your Author Identifier, you can request corrections using the Scopus Author Feedback Wizard if:

  • A publication indexed in Scopus has been wrongly assigned.
  • The preferred name used to display the profile needs to be changed.
  • A primary affiliation should be chosen from those identified in the documents.
  • Some documents indexed in Scopus are missing from the profile.

Link Your Scopus Author Identifier to ORCID

You can import your Scopus Author Identifier and publications into ORCID or send your author details to ORCID. Both require the Scopus Author Feedback Wizard.

  1. Open the Scopus Author Feedback wizard.
  2. Follow the wizard’s steps, finding the correct profile(s) in Scopus and checking the publications it contains.
  3. Once you have reviewed the profile and identified any corrections:
    • Your Scopus Author Identifier is sent to ORCID.
    • Scopus remembers your ORCID.
    • The corrected publication list is sent to ORCID (optional).
    • Any corrections you make are submitted to the Scopus Author Feedback team. You will receive an email with a request to confirm them.
