Author Profiles Guide

There are numerous resources to help authors manage their profiles to make sure that their publications and scholarly activities are associated with the correct author. While there is overlap between the resources, each resource has its own functionality and unique features. Based on your research focus, you may want to maintain more than one profile, but you should keep the following in mind:

  • ORCID integrates with Scopus Author Identifier, Web of Science Researcher ID, and SciENcv.
  • ORCID is required by some national or international organizations for grant-funding requests and for submitting articles to most submission platforms.
  • Your Scopus Author Identifier or Web of Science Researcher ID includes citation counts and author metrics based on the journals indexed in their respective databases.

An updated and vetted author profile increases your visibility to grant funders and potential collaborators, attributes your scholarly activities to you and improves the accuracy of author level metrics. As noted in this guide, there are numerous author profiling tools, both free and subscribed.
